Nouveau Victorian Style - It's Back!

If you were around during the early to mid 80's, you probably remember the "New Romantics" style. The style pervaded fashion and advertising like crazy. (Think Prince, Duran Duran, Adam Ant, etc.) Lace and pastel colors were everywhere. For those not fortunate enough to remember this, it was basically a revival of Victorian fashion and color.

Well it's back in style, albeit in a somewhat different form. One of the most prevalent styles in advertising and graphic arts is Victorian / Edwardian elegance and colors. Look around the internet and you're sure to see this trend. Business cards and other letterpress are one of the main mediums for this style. There really aren't that many industries that can take advantage of this feminine and somewhat over-the-top look. For instance, it wouldn't make sense for a paralegal to carry around such a frou-frou card, and a plumber sure couldn't get away with it.
However, if you're in the beauty industry, Victorian style business cards are totally appropriate. Above are some  examples of the new romantic graphics available on the market today, done in purple with ivy; also the beautiful shell-colored cameo.
